| KOREAN DA OM BBQ HOUSE [
] - 21.8.2006 Monday |
After watching Garfield 2 at Outdoor Movie Carnival, we decided to go to try out the new Korean restaurant at Jalan Song, Korean Da Om BBQ House.

The signboard and the interior. They have two rooms for those that wanted privacy and you have to sit on the tatami and cushions :P
We wanted to try Korean BBQ so we ordered Deung Sim with side dishes BBQ (RM35). You can have the choice of pork, chicken or beef. We ordered beef. It's for two people. If not mistaken, it's the most expensive dish too... didn't know how to order so simply ordered that's why :P

We thought we would have the chance to try the BBQ ourselves but they did it for us. Well... this is to ratain the originality of it because if we were the one doing it and we didn't know how to do it well, it's going to spoil the dish.
Met my ex-collegemates there and they both had Korean steamboat, according to them, the portion was big and only RM20+ for two persons but they couldn't finished it, it's recommended for 2-3 persons. Hmmm... Will try this next time heheeh...

Left: The spoons and chopsticks.
Right: The stove for BBQ. It's from Korea, the instructions are all in Korean, hehehehe... don't understand a word in there.
The side dishes (In the menu they printed as sidedisi hmmm... korean word?):

Sausages with egg and of course kimchi! For those that couldn't stand the spiciness of kimchi, this is sour instead of spicy. I didn't feel a hint of spiciness at all. Strange, could be too mild? Or from different part of Korea. Just like not every laksa is the same in different part of Malaysia.
Meat balls with carrot cubes and fermented reddish.
Sesame oil, salted bean paste and local salad leaves for you to wrap the meat and other side dishes. It's not to be eaten alone.
My conclusion is that the portions are small. RM35 for that was pretty pricey. Thinking back of last time, once we ordered two dishes, bulgogi and even the hotpot rice, for two persons, including lots of side dishes, 2 bowls of plain rice summore and drinks, it's less than RM60. The portion were big too. Besides that, the side dishes' here tasted very local :P just like what we cooked at home haahah... They have less choices.
I hope you're not put off by this, they just started not long ago. I'm sure they will improve from time to time. Many people recommended the steamboat. So try it if you can heheheh... pretty worth it with more people. Don't expect the steamboat to be the buffet style, it's not.
The place is at Jalan Song. It's at the next block of former Ichiro Shabu Shabu. :( Gone already. There's no way Kuching can have buffet style Japanese or Korean steamboat. It will go bankrupt very soon except hotels. This is my opinion...
Kuching people, not everyone... but I can say majority have this mentality to eat as much as you can without caring about the dining etiquette.
For example, shabu shabu, Ichiro had it in buffet style. I noticed that people will just poured all the meat into the boiling water and ask for more. The actual fact is that, they are supposed to hold the thinly sliced meat with their chopsticks and then shabu shabu it. Then eat the shabu-ed meat before going for second slice but they treated it like those typical steamboats. I'm Disgusted!
I saw it with my own eyes, and even when I dined with my own friends, they did that too. I had to tell them the etiquette of eating shabu shabu but then they didn't care! *SIGH* They would said,"yi ding yao zhi hui ben!"(this is in Chinese, it means "must eat until you cover your capital" LOL.. really don't know how to explain, like if you pay RM10 for it, you must eat until at least you reach RM10). It really spoilt the whole dining experience!
If you think that I'm talking about you, then it is. If you don't think so, then it's not about you. As simple as that. If you do not agree then I think you better shut up or whatever else you will tell the whole world you are part of them. :) Just don't be too sensitive, it's the fact and you are not the only one. |
