My aunt asked me to go to Carpenter Street with her since I did mention that I want to make my own jewelry because she knows a shop there that sells these stuffs.
Here are some views of Carpenter Street:

Left: It's a one-way street, many furniture shops are located there since long long long time ago, that's why it's called Carpenter Street.
Right: The temple in Carpenter Street.
Here are some black and white shots of mine:
Left: The stall that sells laksa opposite the temple. These stalls really make big money. The patrons kept coming in without stopping, you even have to queue and wait for hmm... 15 minutes or so to get your food. It's freaking 3pm that time! They were not eating something light or drinking water but everyone of them was eating food such as kolo mee, satay, laksa, fishball soup etc. It's a meal for goodness sack! It's not tea break! It's basically looked more like lunch! Man... Kuchingites are such a lucky lot! Food is everywhere! They started their business since early in the morning and it seemed like they are never short of supply, it's cooking, serving, collect money throughout the day until it's closed and I'm not sure about their closing time.
Right: Partial view of the temple.

We reached the shop, it's call Jing Lee something-something, very long name. It's owned by a couple. The husband is from China and the wife is from Sarikei. The shop is practically packed with stocks every nook and corner.
I always wanted to find nice clip-on earrings but always couldn't find any nice ones. All those that you see in the departmental stores are those dangling-hoop-type or the big-big-aunty-type earrings. Summore, I tried to search on the net, the result was pretty hopeless too. Therefore I decided to make my own. I'm thinking that the clips shouldn't be expensive, maybe just few cents only.
After asking the boss about the clips, finally he manage to locate them because there were so many things in the shop and it's quite hard to find. I asked him the price and he told me it's RM1, YES! RM1 for one clip not a pair! WOW... that's expensive. It's so small summore -_-" *GULP* My aunt tried to bargain but he declined to decrease the price even if we buy more.
After that, he suggested that we buy a ready made clip-on earrings which only cost RM2 a pair and then if we don't like the design, we can replace it with our own designs by using the clip. His wife then showed me some clip-on earrings, I asked for more styles, she took almost all of them out by filling them into a small basin for me to choose. There were many styles, I'm spoilt for choices. At the end I bought two. At least something different from what I've been seeing. Here's my newly-bought earrings :
Hmm... I still want to make my own since there aren't much choices of clip-on earrings in the market, might as well do my own and can sell them too. Anyone has any idea where else for me to get these stuffs in Kuching? |
